FoEME launched a report entitled "Climate Change: A New Threat to Middle East Security" at a "Side Event" at the United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Bali, Indonesia from 3-14 December 2007. The Conference assembled representatives from over 180 countries together with observers from nongovernmental organizations and the media. Detailed information on the conference can be found here. With the Middle East being the world's most water-stressed region, climate change, which is projected to cause sea level rise, more extreme weather events, such as droughts and floods, and less precipitation, will contribute to even greater water stress in the region and likely further exacerbate the potential for conflict. The full report is available on FoEME's website.
The new report and FoEME's participation in the UN Conference was also the focus of the Heinrich Böll Foundation sponsored event entitled "From Bali to Copenhagen: Israel and Global Warming " held in Tel Aviv following the Climate Change Conference.

Nearly five months following the Public Stakeholder Meetings held in Israel, Palestine and Jordan, the World Bank has released their response to comments raised by the public at the stakeholder meetings and in subsequent written remarks. FoEME is not satisfied with the World Bank's response and is concerned that the study of alternatives to the Red Sea – Dead Sea Conduit is not being undertaken in an independent manner.

FoEME's Pro-Aquifer project, organized in cooperation with the Palestinian House of Water and Environment, aims to alleviate ground water pollution by providing educational and technical training support to local authorities engaged in preventing ground water pollution in hydro-sensitive areas. This month the project undertook parallel trainings in sewage treatment technologies and management for Palestinian and Israeli Municipal staff and managers. In the coming month the managers will participate in a joint tour of several sewage treatment facilities in the area. The project also held a steering committee meeting to strategize how to enhance community involvement in the project's Umm al Fahm Community GIS pilot program. The program, which establishes a GIS map of the hydrologically sensitive area of Umm al Fahm, relies upon local community members to identify and report environmental hazards.
