The Good Water Neighbors Project convened a two-day gathering of Mayors, Municipal Representatives and concerned residents from the 17 Jordanian, Palestinian and Israeli Good Water Neighbors communities in Jordan during the first week of February. The tour and conference brought together over one hundred and fifty participants from the local and international community, including British Ambassador to Jordan James Watt and the EU Chargé d' Affairs Claus Heiberg. During the conference representatives proposed cross border projects based on common solutions to shared environmental challenges. The project proposals were also collected in a new publication distributed at the conference. Letters of support from Michael Bloomberg, the Mayor of New York and Elie Weisel, from the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity were also presented to participants. The Good Water Neighbors Project is jointly funded by the European Union Partnership for Peace Program, the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund, and the British Government's Global Opportunities Fund. Press coverage of the event from United Press International, Ha'aretz, Walla! and Ynet can be found at https://www.foeme.org/www/?module=projects&record_id=88. An article in the Economist is due out next week.

Families from the Good Water Neighbors communities of Wadi Fukin and Tzur Hadassah came together for the holiday of Tu’ Bishvat to plant trees along the route of the Separation Barrier under construction in Wadi Fukin. The area is renowned for its lush landscape rich in natural springs which have served the needs of the area's residents for generations. The beautiful cultural landscape of the valley, slated to be included on UNESCO’s World Heritage list, is directly threatened by the Separation Barrier which will destroy the springs' water flow and further isolate the area's residents. The event was widely covered in local and international media including: The Associated Press, Galay Zahal; TV Channel 1 and NRG. | |
