FoEME Amman partnered with UNESCO Jordan in a poster competition aimed at increasing awareness on the impact of climate change on our local and global water resources. Following advertisements in newspapers and through our Jordanian "Good Water Neighbors" communities, over 100 entries were received. The 15 best posters were exhibited at UNESCO Amman’s Climate Change Conference held on November 24.
The 1st place poster by Mohammad Al Omari is pictured on the right. To see the rest, visit FoEME’s blog page where you can then link to our new Flickr photstream.

On December 3-5, our Good Water Neighbors project gathered 120 youth "Water Trustees" and field staff from 17 communities across Israel, Jordan and Palestine in Kibbutz Lotan for an ecological building workshop. The youth learned how to build with mud and recycled materials; to build a geodesic dome from date palm fronds and discarded irrigation plastics; they learned about the use of different materials for different types of bricks and built a small archway using the mud bricks they prepared - which was so strong it could support the weight of more than 3 people!
The Good Water Neighbors project is supported by USAID, SIDA and the Belgium Foreign Ministry’s Peace Building Desk.

Youval Arbel, deputy director in FoEME's Tel Aviv office, traveled to the Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark as part of the “Paths to Sustainability” delegation of Israeli NGOs. The delegation, supported by Heinrich Boell Stiftung, Israel, consisted of 30 NGO activists who have been actively advocating for a comprehensive climate policy by the Israeli government. FoEME played a major role in building and leading the coalition and writing the Israeli position paper for COP-15.
Read why Youval says that although COP-15 failed to reach post-Kyoto climate change mitigation protocol, he didn't think it was a total failure… on our blog page and visit our Climate Change / Press Coverage page for articles by NRG, Walla, Yale University, The Media Line and more…

HOME is an excellent movie, now on YouTube, about how the world was created and the impact that climate change can have on our beautiful world. Scientists tell us that we have 10 years to change the way we live, avert the depletion of natural resources and the catastrophic evolution of the Earth's climate. HOME has been conceived to take a message of mobilization out to every human being.
The Jordan River and Dead Sea are specifically mentioned from minutes 41.30 in this superb movie - this comes from FoEME's work!

Due to our efforts in establishing the EcoPark in Sheikh Hussein, FoEME's Jordanian Deputy Director, Abed Sultan, was one of three Jordanians chosen to participate in the U.S. Department of Interior's Fish and Wildlife Service workshop to learn about management in dry wetlands in the U.S. The workshop included visits to 5 Wildlife Refuges including Bosque Del Apache, Pahranagat, Springs Preserve, Ash Meadows and Moapa. The trip focused on water and fire management, habitat restoration, law enforcement, community participation, environmental interpretation, & institution integration.
The trip identified potential avenues of future cooperation - on habitat assessments and restoration plans, potential uses of fire for controlling invasive species, and to advance regional integrety on wildlife protection in the Middle East.
