Two developments currently taking place in Israel are about to change the way water will be produced and supplied: incorporation and privatization of the water and sewage services sector, and sea water desalination.
The reforms taking place in Israel will have a direct and perhaps irreversible impact on the ability of the Israeli public to determine and be involved in better demand management of water resources.
It is the belief of FoEME that without meangingful public participation in the water sector, poor water management decision making will continue in Israel with direct impact on both water for nature issues and regional water politics.
In addition, FoEME is concerned that the proposed privatization of water services may result in restricted access for many to the basic environmental right of clean water, through increased prices and service disconnection.
